9.5"w x 8"h

$ 3,800.00

Lucy M. Lewis is among the best-known Acoma potters for her pottery revival beginning in the 1950s.  This jar is a classic water jar that is coil-built.  The jar part of a series she made from 1968-72 that were dated and inspired by utilitarian forms and with no decoration. The jar has a round body and a short neck.  The neck of the jar has six rows of corrugation that is textured.  The piece was traditionally fired to create the coloration on the surface.  The jar is signed on the bottom “Lucy M. Lewis”.  It is also dated, “1970”.  Her dated pieces are always among her most creative and precise works in clay.  The jar is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks restoration or repair.  Certainly one of the classic pieces by this important matriarchal potter!
