Rita Banada Lewis of Cochiti Pueblo was married to Ivan Lewis, a son of Lucy Lewis. Rita began making pottery in 1959 and was taught by her mother.  This is a large storyteller made by Rita in 1986.  It is made from traditional clay with wild spinach (black) and red clay slip.  It is a female figure with 15 kids on her arms, back, and legs.  Note the detail in the necklace she is wearing!  It is in very good very condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.  There is one rub on the side of one leg, which can be seen in the photo.  Each is signed on the bottom, “Rita Lewis”.
