Diane Lewis is known for her tightly painted miniature pottery.  This is one of her larger vessels. There are four Mimbres animals painted around the neck. There is a rabbit, bird, turtle and grasshopper.  They are painted with additional clay slips to add color.  Surrounding the body of the piece is a stylized checkerboard pattern.  Each of the diamond shaped patterns is either fineline or with a star pattern or plain.  The rim of the jar has an additional kiva step painted design.  It is an exciting modern interpretation of classic imagery.

Diane Lewis

Diane Lewis is a daughter of Kathleen Lewis and a sister of noted potters Rebecca Lucario, Marilyn Ray, Judy Lewis, and Carolyn Concho. She is known for her miniature pottery and the use of traditional and Mimbres imagery. She has won numerous awards at the Heard Museum Market and Gallup Ceremonials.
