This seedpot by Joseph Lonewolf is from 1972 which has been fired black-and-red.  This coloration was created by Joseph Lonewolf and was distinctive for keeping the red color while having the reduction process turn the rest of the piece black!  The black area of the bowl is very highly polished.  The design is a “medicine flower” and it was made in honor of his sister, Grace Medicine Flower.  It is a very distinctive design and one of the only other times I’ve seen it was when I had a show for both Joseph and Grace and he did a piece in her honor with the same design!  The design is a highly polished red and note the deep lines of the incised pattern.   It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.  It is signed on the bottom in the clay.
