Joseph Lonewolf began making pottery in 1970-1.  This is a classic piece of his pottery in the black and red style. It is a round bowl shape that is fully polished and indented on the bottom.  It is an early piece from 1972.  The bowl is larger in size and has THREE medallions!  There is one with a Mimbres fish, one has two birds, and the third has a Mimbres rabbit.  They are each highly polished and note the background matte area.  It is carved with rounded, radiating designs in each section.   Joseph created the “red and black” coloration.  At the end of the firing process before the manure was added to turn the piece black they would coverares of the the bowl. This would keep sections red while the remainder turned black.  The bowl is polished, incised, and etched before it is fired.  The bowl is signed on the bottom “Joseph Lonewolf”.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.
