This is a classic bowl by Steve Lucas.  The piece is thin-walled and stone-polished before it is fired.  The top of the jar is painted with four butterflies or moths on the top.  They are painted with bee-weed (black) and then highlighted with white and red clay slips.  Around the side are rain and step patterns.  Again, they are highlighted with white clay.  The bowl was traditionally fired with amazing fire clouds on the surface.  It is signed on the bottom with his name, an ear of corn (Corn Clan) and a Mudhead Katsina.
