Lucas, Steve – Mini Jar with Cloud, Mountain, and Wind Designs (1980s)

2.25"w x 1.75"h

$ 375.00

This is an early piece by Steve Lucas.  He has been one of the most influential traditional Hopi potters of the past several decades. His large, thin-walled vessels, along with his detailed painting, precise lines, and neo-traditional designs, are hallmarks of his pottery. This small jar has a round body and it is patined with bee-weed (black). There is a complex cloud, mountain, and wind design on each side.  The bowl was traditionally fired and it is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.  The jar is signed on the bottom, “S. Lucas” and Koeymensi for the Mudhead Katsina.
