Lujan, Annette Vigil – Polychrome Jar with Feather Pattern (1980s)

3"w x 2.25"h

$ 125.00

Annette Vigil Lujan is a daughter of noted potter Minnie Vigil. She learned to make pottery from her mother and was most active in the 1980s.  I remember my parents purchasing Annette’s pottery from Minnie in the 1980s for our gallery in Estes Park.  Each piece was coil-built, stone polished, painted with native clay slips, and traditionally fired. This jar is has a sharp shoulder and sloping sides.  The top half of the jar has a feather pattern that encircles the piece.  The feathers are painted with a black slip on the matte tan surface.  They are accented near the shoulder with a blue clay. The bottom is fully polished red with a painted mountain design.  The jar is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.  It is signed on the bottom, “Annette”.   Annette’s aunts are potters Gloria Garcia (Goldenrod), Lois Guiterrez, and Thelma Talachy.  Her grandmother was Petra Gutierrez and her great-grandmother was Pasqualita Gutierrez.
