Joshua Madalena is known for his revival of historic Jemez pottery.  His pottery is made with white clay and painted with vegetal slips for coloration.  Joshua began his revival of this style in the late 1990s.  His pottery is meant to tell the history of the Jemez people.  “This pottery is my people’s identity, my personal identity.  Now I know who I am. And it’s time for the world to know that Jemez black-on-white is back”.  This jar has a cloud (or kiva step) carved rim.  The rim is painted on the outside with cloud designs. The body of the jar has clouds, rain, snow, and other classic designs.  It is from 2019.  It is signed, “JM” and it is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
