This plate by Maria Martinez is one of her few redware pieces.  It was made by Maria Martinez and painted by her daughter-in-law Santana.  The plate is polished and then painted with a classic feather design. The plate was fired red with a striking coloration.  Maria made fewer red pieces during her career as they were more difficult to fire and this piece has a high polish and strong coloration. It is signed on the back in the clay, “Marie + Santana”.  It is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.  Definitely a rarity and a classic!
