This is an unusually designed bowl by Maria Martinez and Santana. The bowl was coil-built and polished by Maria Martinez and painted by her daughter-in-law, Santana.  The bowl is fully polished, including the base. The sides are painted with an unusual design. It is a corn design with the corn tassels extending upward from the crescent circles, which are the base of the plant.  The bowl was fired to a near gunmetal coloration.  It is signed “Marie + Santana” on the bottom in the clay before it was fired.  The bowl is from the 1950s.  It is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair, but some wear on the base.  Definitely and exciting and visually dynamic plate with spectacular design and coloration!
