This is a classic large open, fully polished bowl by Maria Martinez.  It was made and fully polished by Maria Martinez. Both the interior and exterior are fully polished, which is always more difficult as the wet slip from the interior can seep through to the exterior when the artist is polishing.  However, Maria was masterful at this type of polishing.  While there is no design, it was still signed in the clay, “Marie + Santana” as that is how they signed all the pieces, with or without design.  The bowl was fired a deep black coloration. It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Marie + Santana”.  It is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.  There is minimal wear on the bottom, which is always a good sign on pieces that are fully polished, as they tend to get worn and scratched over time.  This large bowl is definitely a classic!
