It is not often that we get in a redware jar by Maria Martinez and her son, Popovi Da. Maria made and polished the jar while it was painted by her son, Popovi Da (1923-1971). The jar is in the shape of a small storage jar with a round body and short neck. The entire piece is fully polished, including the inside of the neck. The shoulder of the jar is painted with a series of interlocking clouds with rain. The jar was fired a deep red coloration. The jar is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Maria Popovi 3 70“. The signature indicates that it was made in March 1970. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair. Definitely, a rarity among Maria’s pottery, yet visually stunning for the size!
