Pauline Martinez is a daughter of noted potter Cresencia Tafoya (1918-99) and a sister of Harriet Tafoya, Annie Baca, and Mark Tafoya. Although she was born at Santa Clara Pauline married and moved to San Ildefonso.  This is a classic piece of her pottery with a sharp shoulder and sloping sides.  The shoulder is painted with feathers,  rain, and cloud designs.  It is polished to a glassy shine and fired a deep black coloration.  The jar is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Pauline”.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
