This seedpot by Grace Medicine Flower is from 1981. She remains renown for her creative pottery. This piece is one of her few black fired pieces, as she would most often create red-ware. The piece is polished on the top at an angle. The lower section is matte with just a bit of mica. The design in the medallion is a fawn lying under a tree. It is surrounded by very tightly etched feathers (no, I didn’t count them!). The piece is very highly polished and tightly etched. Interestingly, Grace would always etch her pottery before her work was fired. Note the contrast of both matte and polished surfaces, along with the various depths of etching! It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Grace Medicine Flower”. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.
