Medicine Flower, Grace – Multi-Color Seedpot with Hummingbirds and Flowers (1985)

1.75"w x 2"h

$ 1,100.00

This is a classic seedpot by Grace Medicine Flower.  It is from 1985.  It is fully polished and fully designed in a central medallion. There are two hummingbirds along with columbines.  They are realistic in style and etched into the clay. The piece is highlighted with white, green, and blue clays. Grace only used various colors of clays for a short time as she was given them by her brother, Joseph Lonewolf.  When she ran out, she couldn’t get them from him again.  The use of color on her exceptional designs always adds additional dimension to the pieces.  All the sgraffito was done before the piece was fired. The piece is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Grace Medicine Flower”.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.

When the pottery comes out the way she should, it’s always the Clay Lady. She’s the one who’s giving you all this. She’s a piece of clay in your hands that you were blessed with. For all the years I’ve been potting it’s taught me patience. If it breaks in the fire, then there’s next time. Have patience, enjoy what you are doing, and really, really talk to the Clay Lady. Like my dad said, prayers and patience.”  Grace Medicine Flower, Spoken Through Clay
