Santana Melchor was one of the great potters from Santo Domingo throughout the 1900’s. This open bowl of hers is from the 1970’s.  It has a classic Santo Domingo design with a series of flowers encircling the piece.  The bowl has a “spirit line” on the rim. The bowl is painted with wild spinach (black) and native clay slips. It is signed on the bottom, “Santana Melchor”.  it is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair. It is certainly a striking piece of her pottery!
