Moquino, Ty & Jennifer Tafoya – “Ancient Sea Life” Jar
This is the first collaborative piece we have had by Jennifer Tafoya and her son Ty Moquino. Jennifer made the jar has polished the surface. Ty etched all the designs into the clay. The imagery comes from some of the drawings he has made over the past few years. They are meant to represent pre-historic sea life. It is a very highly detailed and striking composition. It is slipped with white and various clay colors to highlight the design and have it look like one of his drawings. It is signed, “Jennifer Tafoya + Ty Moquino” on the bottom. Both Jennifer and Ty have won numerous awards for their work over the past several years. Ty won the “Best of Youth” award at the Heard Museum Indian Market in 2017 for one of his masks.
