Ty Moquino is the 20-year-old son of noted potter Jennifer Tafoya.  This is one of his new clay masks.  They are inspired by the science fiction he has read, along with being a commentary on the environment, sustainability, and Indigenous Futurism.  This mask is entitled, “Tewa Voices”.  The mask has a stone polished top and a polished band near the base.  There are three areas of gold leafing as part of the design.  The mouthpiece for the “Tewa Voices” has leafing on the surface.  There are both matte and micaceous surfaces across the piece.  It is a classic piece of his art with multi-levels and dimensionality.  It is great to see new work from his young potter.  Ty won the “Best of Youth” award at the Heard Museum Indian Market in 2017 for one of his masks!  It is signed on the back, “Ty”.
