Nahohai, Randy – Kiva Bowl with Water Beings (1996)

6.5"w x 5.5"h

$ 450.00

This is a striking piece by Randy Nahohai.  He was known for his innovative Zuni pottery.  This is a classic Kiva Bowl shape. A kiva bowl is so described by the shape of the vessel with the step designs for the sides.  The steps represent the steps into the kiva and there are always four on the bowl, representing the four directions.  This bowl is round in shape and the kiva steps have a slight outturn.  There is a handle on the piece.  The interior has a water being and there are four on the outside.  The center of their bodies are highlighted with circles in red or white/black.  The black has just a bit of mica in the clay.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.  It is signed on the bottom, “R. Nahohai ’96”.
