This is a classic jar by Randy Nahohai.  He was known for his innovative Zuni pottery.  This jar is coil-built from red Zuni clay and painted with a black clay slip. The clay used to paint the designs has just a bit of mica and you can see the sparkle in the photos.  The jar has a star pattern on the top and rain and lightning designs extending around the shoulder.  The design has lots of thin lines and fluid patterns.  Note how the are painted to perfectly wrap around the shoulder of the piece!  It is a classic use of painted designs and the negative space of the clay coloration.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.  It is signed on the bottom, “R. Nahohai ’96”.
