This is a creative new jar by Les Namingha.  It is entitled “Abstraction”.  The jar is part of the series inspired by his grandmother, Rachel Nampeyo (1903-1085).  He says he was inspired to make a group of pieces inspired by pottery given to him and his brother in the late 1970s by Rachel.  This jar has a wide shoulder and a small opening. The jar has two abstract hummingbirds on the top of the piece.  The forms are exaggerated with lots of color and his attempt to create an idea of motion.  The jar has geometric shapes on the side and bird flight path lines in black on the bottom. The small triangle is the tiny hummingbird nest!  It is a creative and fluid jar.  It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Les Namingha  2024”.
