Namingha, Les – Bowl with Hopi Birds (Rachel Series), 2024

5.5"w x 3"h

$ 950.00

This is a classic bowl by Les Namingha.  It is part of a series Les calls the “Rachel Series”, which is named after his grandmother, Rachel Nampeyo (1903-1085).  He says he was inspired to make a group of pieces inspired by pottery given to him and his brother in the late 1970s by Rachel. This bowl has a wide base and straight sides.  It is a shape that Rachel would often make in her pottery.  The bowl is painted with Hopi-style birds and triangular cloud geometrics. While Rachel’s pottery inspires the designs, the base has Les’s classic overlapping ellipses.  There are three representing the three generations.  It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Les Namingha  2024”.
