Namingha, Les – “Awatovi Clouds” Contemporary Jar
7"w x 4"h
This is a stylized jar by Les Namingha. The piece has a wide shoulder and a sloping neck. The top is painted with cloud spirals extending down from the rim to the shoulder. The rim of the bowl is slipped with a mica clay and the same with the bottom. The coppery color of the mica is a strong contrast to the black and white of the top of the jar. The style reminds one of the Awatovi black-and-white pottery from near Hopi. It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Les Namingha 2020”.
