Namingha, Les – “Dancing Birds” Traditional Clay Jar (1990s)
$ 1,400.00
This is a striking small traditional jar by Les Namingha. This piece is from the late 1990s. It is coil-built from Hopi clay painted with bee-weed and natural clay slips and traditionally fired. The jar has a round shoulder and an elongated neck. It has swirling Sikyatki birds, dance shawl designs and even a red polished Hopi mesa. The painting perfectly matches the shape of the jar and the designs tell a great story of designs used on clothing in Hopi dances and how they move during these events. Much like the swirling birds that are also captured in the designs on the piece. There are two different colors of red that are polished on the jar. The jar has blushes from the traditional firing. It is signed, “Les Namingha”. The jar is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.
