This is a classic jar by Les Namingha.  It is part of a series Les calls the “Rachel Series”, which is named after his grandmother, Rachel Nampeyo (1903-1085).  He says he was inspired to make a group of pieces inspired by pottery given to him and his brother in the late 1970s by Rachel.  This jar has a round shoulder and a short neck.  The top of the shoulder has two large stylized Hopi birds as the design.  Around the sides are large “x” or bird patterns.  The jar is colorful and creative.  It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Les Namingha  2024”.
