This is a classic bowl by Les Namingha.  It is part of a series Les calls the “Rachel Series”, which is named after his grandmother, Rachel Nampeyo (1903-1985).  He says he was inspired to make a group of pieces inspired by pottery given to him and his brother in the late 1970s by Rachel.  This jar has a wide shoulder and a sloping side.  The top is painted with four bird wings and a flower design in the center.  The base has lines that create simple linear flowers and geometric patterns. It is a colorful and creative jar!  It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Les Namingha  2024”.
