This wide shoulder jar by Les Namginha is entitled, “Magpie, v.2”.  The bottom of the piece has a striking spiral cloud pattern. The shape of the jar is the wide shoulder classic Sikyatki form.  The Sikyatki people were making pottery near Hopi from 1400-1600’s.  The designs on this jar are Hopi style birds with small areas of triangular checkerboard patterns.  There are red cloud designs near the rim.  The design fits perfectly on this classic shape.  The jar is signed on the bottom.
