Namingha, Les – “Mood” Asymmetric Jar with Sikyatki Birds

7.5"w x 9"h

$ 6,500.00

Les Namingha has, over the years, created exciting variations in his pottery with new painting and technical styles. This jar is entitled, “Mood”.  It is coil-built and made from native clay.  The jar has blue and white background colorations with Hopi Sikyatki birds painted across the surface.  Les said the background is the colors of the sky and clouds, and the birds are the “mood”, flying across a spring sky.  Each of the birds is highly detailed and composed of tightly painted Hopi-Tewa designs.  There is a modernism to his work, much like that of his ancestor, Nampeyo of Hano.  The neck of the jar has an asymmetric opening, adding to the sense of motion in the jar.  The piece is signed on the bottom, “Les Namingha”.
