This jar by Les Namingha is a traditional piece of his work from the 1990s.  It is coil-built from Hopi clay painted with bee-weed and natural clay slips and traditionally fired.  The jar has a rain design at the rim painted with elongated dots of clay representing the sunset on the sides of the mesa.  On the flat part of the jar above the shoulder are bands of rain and clouds, rocks, and fields.  The lines of the design extend down over the side of the jar and there is a red polished band near the base.  The jar has blushes from the traditional firing.  It is signed, “Les Namingha”.  The jar is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.
