Namingha, Lillian – Ladle with Rain Designs (1980s)

3.5"w x 6.5"h

$ 250.00

Lillian Namingha was the youngest sister of noted potters Dextra Quotskuyva and Priscilla Nampeyo. She is also a descendant of Nampeyo of Hano.  This is a ladle made from native clay.  It has rain, cloud, and mesa designs painted on the handle. The back of the “bowl” has rain clouds, as does the front.  The piece was painted with bee-weed (black) and red clay slip. It was traditionally fired creating blushes on the surface. The bowl is signed on the back, “L. Namingha” and corn for Corn Clan.  It is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
