Namoki, Lawrence – “At the Center” Jar with Petroglyphs, Corn, and Katsina Figures (2012)

Lawrence Namoki was known for the variety of styles of his pottery. While he began with deeply carved pottery, he ended his career by creating delicately painted vessels.  This piece is entitled “At the Center”.  It is part of a series he made around 2012 about traditional Hopi stories. The jar has four tan polished medallions with Flute Players, Petroglyph and Mimbres Animal Deisgns. Seprating them are multi-color Katinas and Flute player within a celestial context.  The rim of the bowl has four corn plants, each colored for the four directions.  The jar is signed on the bottom, “Lawrence Namoki”.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.
