Lawrence Namoki has been known for a variety of styles in his pottery.  This is an earlier piece of his pottery from the 1980s.  It is a seedpot with a carved Sunface and petroglyphs.  It is entitled, “My Background”.  The sun is deeply carved into the clay. The remainder is carved with petroglyphs telling the story of the central figure with corn, footprints and other geometric designs.  The piece is painted iwht various clay slips to have the appearance of wood.  The piece is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Lawrence Namoki”.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.
