Nampeyo, Bonnie – Jar with Migration Pattern
This is a classic jar by Bonnie Sahmie Chapella Nampeyo. She is a daughter of Priscilla Nampeyo and a sister of noted potters Jean Sahmie, Rachel Sahmie, and Nyla Sahmie. She began making pottery in 1975. This jar is coil built and painted with bee-weed and a red clay slip. This jar has the migration pattern, which swirls down from the neck to the base. It is a design that matches the shape. It was traditionally fired and so it has blushes across the surface. It is signed on the bottom “Bonnie Nampeyo”. It is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.
