This is a tall cylinder by Bonnie Sahmie Chapella Nampeyo.  She is a daughter of Priscilla Nampeyo and a sister of noted potters Jean Sahmie, Rachel Sahmie, and Nyla Sahmie.  She began making pottery in 1975.  This jar is coil-built and painted with bee-weed and a red clay slip.  This jar has bird wing design on each side.  The designs extend from the rim to the base.  The jar was traditionally fired and so it has blushes across the surface.  It is signed on the bottom “B. Nampeyo”.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.
