Nampeyo, Fannie – Bowl with Blackbird Migration with 26 Bird Wings(1970’s)

5"w x 3"h

$ 900.00

This bowl by Fannie Nampeyo is a classic shape and design.  The piece is fully polished and painted with bee-weed and clay slips.  The design is a blackbird migration pattern with the bird wings painted above and below the shoulder.  There are 13 wings above the shoulder, and 13 below, for a total of 26.   The design has a creative flow around the entire piece.  It was traditionally fired creating striking color variations on the surface.  It’s not often that we see such complex painting on Fannie’s smaller pieces.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair. It is signed on the bottom, “Fannie Nampeyo” and an ear of corn for Corn Clan.  This signature is from the 1970s.
