Nampeyo, Fannie – Jar with Eagle Tail Design (1960’s)

8"w x 5.5"h

$ 2,300.00

This is a larger traditional jar by Fannie Nampeyo. She was the youngest daughter of noted potter Nampeyo of Hano and also the mother of noted potters Iris Nampeyo, Leah Nampeyo, and Thomas Polacca.  She was certainly among the most skilled of her generation for painting designs pottery.  This jar has a stylized version of the eagle tail pattern made famous by Nampeyo of Hano.  The neck is slipped red and the body is painted with bee-weed (black) to create the designs. The jar was traditionally fired so that it has some visually striking blushes on the surface.  It is signed on the bottom, “Fannie Nampeyo”.   It is in very good with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.
