Naranjo, Christina – Bowl with Carved Avanyu (1970s)

7.5"w x 4.25"h

$ 1,000.00

This bowl is a classic piece by Christina Naranjo.   Christina was a sister of Margaret Tafoya and Camilio Tafoya, as well as the matriarch of the family of potters including Teresita Naranjo and Tammy Garcia. This bowl is a wide shape and it is carved on the exterior.  There is a water serpent as the carved design.  Note how the horn goes upward, which is a style continued by most of the potters in the family.  The rim and base band are also fully polished. The piece is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Christina Naranjo”.  It is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.  Definitely a piece of history and classic of Native pueblo art!
