This is a striking large etched jar by Dusty Naranjo. The piece is coil-built and fully polished and fired a brown coloration. The jar has a matte neck and the remainder is fully polished. The jar is fired the distinctive brown coloration and then etched with designs. This jar has two fish in the water being “visited” by a frog. The fish on this jar is actually a Kokanee salmon, also known as the Kokanee trout. The one trout coming up behind the frog is beautifully incised from the top of the pot, wrapping its tail down to the bottom. It is always difficult to etch such images on the rounded curved form of this piece. The frog is charming and almost looks like it is smiling! Etched dragonflies are also placed around the other design work. The bottom of the jar is completely polished and the entire surface is etched with tiny small lines to represent the water waves. Note as well the small dragonflies all around the bottom half of the jar. Not only is the shape creative and it is highly polished, but the design is complex and fills the entire surface of the piece! It is signed, “Dusty Naranjo” on the bottom. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
