5.5"w x 5"h

$ 650.00

This jar by Luciano Naranjo is an elegant shape with a wide shoulder and an elongated neck. The entire jar is fully polished, and the designs are etched into the clay.  The designs are a fascinating reflection of Pueblo culture.  A deer and Big Horn Sheep are on each side of the jar.  Separating are a Deer Dancer and a Ram Dancer.  The jar captures the connection between the animals and the dancers who portray them in various Pueblo ceremonies.  Flowing through the background of the jar is a water serpent (avanyu), which ties the entire piece together.  The area where he has etched away the polished surface he has then scraped down to create a striking contrast between the polished and matte surface.  The color from the firing on this jar is a dark brown.  It is signed, “L. Naranjo”.
