Madeline Naranjo creates beautifully carved and polished pottery.  Each piece is pinch-built, carved, stone polished, and traditionally fired.  This bowl is oval in shape.  There is a Corn Maiden carved into the clay on each side. The hair and carved kernels of corn that make up her body are fully polished.  The husk is matte.  Separating each of the maidens is a cloud design.  It has been said that “Corn Maiden represents the life-giving bounty and traditional importance of Corn.  The Pueblo people were farmers growing corn as a sustenance crop. Planted and harvested today, corn is called “the mother” because it’s cultivated from “Mother Earth”.”  The fits perfectly on the bowl.  There are two ears of corn on the top of the lid, one that is polished and one that is matte.  Her matte areas are sanded and perfectly smooth so that there are no indentations or areas where the matte might make a shadow.  Her designs are always innovative and beautifully executed.  The jar is signed on the bottom, “Madeline Naranjo”.
