Madeline Naranjo creates beautifully carved and polished pottery.  Each piece is pinch-built, carved, stone polished, and traditionally fired.  This is one of her tiles.  They are clay, carved, and polished. This piece has two butterflies carved into the clay.  The carved areas inside the wings are matte but the remainder is polished.  It is fired a striking red coloration. I always like how Madeline’s pottery tells a story in clay.  The carved areas are highly polished.  Her matte areas are sanded and perfectly smooth so that there are no indentations or areas where the matte might make a shadow.  Her designs are always innovative and beautifully executed.  The tile is carved on the back, “Madeline Naranjo”.
