Madeline Naranjo creates beautifully carved and polished pottery. Each piece is pinch-built, carved, stone polished, and traditionally fired. She is one of the few Santa Clara potters who create pinch pottery instead of coil-built vessels. This piece is a small storage jar shape with round sides and a short neck. Madeline said she was inspired to make this jar after seeing historic pieces at the School for Advanced Research in Santa Fe. The jar is carved with an old-style cloud pattern. Note as well that she has etched some additional rain and cloud designs onto the surface. The jar is highly stone-polished and traditionally fired a dark black. Her designs are always innovative and beautifully executed. The jar is signed on the bottom, “Madeline Naranjo”.
