Navasie, Bill – Jar with Swirling Bird Designs (1990s)
$ 275.00
Bill Navasie (1969-2004) was a son of noted potters Maynard Navasie (1945-2003) and Veronica (b. 1945) Navasie. He was a grandson onf Joy Navasie. This jar is coil built and painted with bee-weed (black) and a deep red clay slip. The jar has a high shoulder and it is fully painted. There are intricately designed Sikyatki birds on the jar. Note the thin lines! The jar is signed on the bottom with a Frog hallmark and musical notes. It was traditionally fired, creating the coloration on the surface. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair. Bill didn’t make a lot of pottery and this is the only piece of his work we have had in the gallery.
