Joy Navasie was known for her white slipped pottery and classic use of design elements. She learned to make pottery from her mother, Paqua, who also used the white clay and signed with a frog as a hallmark.  The white kaolin clay is a slip that is applied to the surface of the bowl and then black (bee-weed) and red clay slips are used for painting.  This jar is a classic of her pottery from the 1980s with a high shoulder and short neck.  The deeper red (burgundy) colored clay is one she began using in the 1980s.  The jar is painted in four panels that are separated by fine lines.  Two panels have swirling birds as the design.  Separating them are panels with larger bird wing and bird tail designs.  The jar has a rain design around the neck.  It is signed on the bottom with her frog hallmark.  It is in vexcellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
