Joy Navasie was known for her white slipped pottery and classic use of design elements. She learned to make pottery from her mother, Paqua, who also used the white clay and signed with a frog as a hallmark.  The white kaolin clay is a slip that is applied to the surface of the bowl and then black (bee-weed) and red clay slips are used for painting.  This jar is from the 1990s and has a low shoulder and sloping neck.  The jar is painted with rain and cloud designs. The body of the jar has swirling birds in four panels of designs.  It is painted with bee-weed and highlighted with a burgundy red clay.  Note the complexity of the designs.  As it is a later piece, the lines are not as perfect up close, but it also makes me think that she definitely painted this piece.  The jar was traditionally fired so there are color variations on the surface.  It is signed on the bottom with her frog hallmark.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.  There is a photo of her holding the jar.
