Navasie, Maynard & Veronica – 10″ Wide Jar with Swirling Birds and Feather Pattern (1997), Ribbon

10"w x 4"h

$ 975.00

Maynard Navasie (1945-2003) was a son of noted potter Joy “Frogwoman” Navasie.  He learned to make pottery from his mother.  Veronica (b. 1945) is a daughter of Laura Prestson.  They worked together on much of their pottery.  This jar is coil-built and painted with bee-weed (black) and a deep red clay slip. The jar has a sharp shoulder and a short neck. The top of the jar has three large swirling birds.  Each bird is different.  They are separated by a star pattern.  Below the shoulder is a feather and mountain partner. The jar is signed on the bottom with a Frog hallmark and his initials, “M.N & V.N.”.  It is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.  There is a second place ribbon from the 1997 Gallup Inter-Tribal Ceremonials.
