Nez, Wallace – Sgraffito Seed Jar with Mimbres and Realistic Quail (2015)

1.5"w x 1.5"h

$ 550.00

Wallace Nez is known for his intricately etched pottery.  He began to make pottery when he was 12 years old.  He won first-place ribbons at the Santa Fe Indian Market in 1999, 2000, and 2001 and Best of Division at the Museum of Northern Arizona Market Show in 1999.  This small seed jar is exceptional in detail.  On the top is a realistic quail opposite a Mimbres quail.  Separating them are tiny feathers and cloud designs.  Around the neck are more tiny etched feathers.  Near the base is an incised Navajo basket as the design.  Wallace took the time to etch each row and each section of the basket!  The piece has incredible detail and precision!  It seems to be one of those pieces that the more you look, the more detail and design you see!   The piece is signed on the bottom “Wallace Nez”.  It is from 2015.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
