Christine Nieto (1965-2008) was a sister of Frances Naranjo Martinez (married to Marvin Martinez) and the daughter of Lorraine Naranjo. This bowl has a round shape and is really Christine at her very best. The bowl is thin-walled and highly polished. It was fired a deep brown coloration. The surface is etched with a series of complex flowers and leaves across the entire piece. Some are more detailed and some more simple. Christine was known for her brown-fired pottery and delicately etched designs. The bowl is signed on the bottom, “C. Nieto”. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.

Christine Nieto was a daughter of Lorraine Agnes Naranjo and a granddaughter of Benenta and Marcus Naranjo. She was a sister of Suzanne Naranjo, Frances Martinez , and Leslie Cruz. She had two children, Gabriel and Chester Gutierrez. Her sister Frances is married to Marvin Martinez of San Ildefonso Pueblo. Christine was known for her brown fired pottery. The designs were etched into the clay after the firing. She often worked with her partner Dale Gutierrez.
