Marie T. Ortiz (b. 1939) is a granddaughter of Mary Histia and the mother of Viola Ortiz. This is one of her classic Acoma jars. The piece is coil-built and a traditional form with a wide shoulder and short neck. The jar is painted with three large parrots. They are surrounded by plant and rain designs. There are intricate hatchure designs extending down from the rim and up from near the base. It is a striking use of design and form. The jar is signed on the bottom, “M. T. Oritz”. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
